Community Service Projects

And here we go again….

Our second project with the girls at the Seals Community Center in Syracuse NY is off to a great start.  After seeing our display of Community Outreach projects at our guild’s quilt show last summer, some of the girls expressed an interest in making school bags for children who have lost much, if not everything, after a  natural disaster such as floods, hurricanes etc.   Church World Service distributes these simple bags, filling them with basic school supplies.

We were so pleased that we played a part with the girls at the center as they learned a skill that is allowing them to help someone else.

We decided to make the school bags a part of our project with them this year.

Not only were we able to work again with some of the girls on last year’s project, but they were able to help teach the new girls basic sewing techniques and safety issues.Seals-2013 003

The reward in doing projects such as these it the look on the girls faces as they finish a project.  Seals-2013 004

As part of the project they will have the opportunity to visit  a local quilt shop where they will pick out fabric for a quiltsmart bag that they will make for themselves.

There is always time to quilt!
