Community Outreach – Two Years in Review

Our guild hosted its biennial quilt show this past weekend and  featured the community service projects that members completed in 2011 and 2012:

2011 Annual Charity Quilt –Dog and Cat Themed Quilts

  • 4- 42”x 42” quilts for Syracuse SPCA
  • featured as raffle items at summer fund raiser

Memory Bags

  • given to local hospitals, St Joseph’s, Crouse and Auburn Memorial 
  • used for the personal belongings of someone who dies while in the hospital.

Just One Star Project – Star Blocks

  • blocks pieced and assembled by Moda into 100 quilts in just 100 days
  • in just two weeks, guild members made 24 Just One Star blocks

 

 

Church World Service – School Bags

  • made at Watson Homestead annual Fall retreat
  • 128 bags donated
  • to be filled with school supplies Dorothy Day House – Pillowcases

  • neighborhood shelter for at risk women and children
  • nearly 100 pillowcases donated

2012 Annual Charity Quilt- Quilt ‘Apple Crisp’

  • donated to Matthew House, Auburn NY, a 2-bed, not-for-profit non-denominational home for terminally ill patients who cannot remain in their homes
  • quilt will be highlighted at August fundraiser/cocktail party in the silent auction

Camp Lookout – ‘Bingo’ Quilts and Pillow Cases

  • provides children from low income families, who would not otherwise be able to attend a summer camp, the opportunity to do so
  • two “Bingo” quilts and 46 pillow cases donated

Operation Kid Comfort Quilts – Quilts for Children of Deployed Servicemen and Women

  • made more than 50 quilts in 2011 and 2012
  • more 190 quilts have been made since 2007

Seals Community Center Quilt Project Pillowcases and Quilt Project

  •   – after school and summer program for students on Syracuse’s West Side.
  •   – fourteen guild members guided 13 girls during 5 sessions.  Beginning with the basics of modern quilt techniques to the finished quilt,  the quilt incorporated fusible applique and machine piecing skills – and –
  •   – 67 age specific pillowcases were given to students at their annual Christmas party in December.
There is always time to quilt!
