Quilting tools

One of my many favorite things

We quilters are notorious for collecting tools – that unfortunately sometime never get used.  This certainly isn’t the case for me  with the Shape Cut Ruler.  It makes cutting multiple 1/2-inch strip units a breeze.  I used it recently on two projects:

  • a quilt I am making for my grandson who is graduating this year ,

I was able to cut 6 3-1/2 inch strips from a half yard of fabric

Cutting multiple strips

and then sub-cut the strips into 3-1/2 x 6 inch rectangles and  3-1/2 inch squares.  Rectangles and Squares

  • and the beginnings of challenge piece that requires 1-1/2-inch strips.

Very accurate cutting results.

I received this ruler as a gift from my husband (who is very ‘into’ gadgets) but didn’t use of  it until I made a quilt for my daughter’s wedding.  Two friends helped me with the cutting since I was under a short deadline.  It certainly made quick work of cutting the strips.

Now the Shape Cut is also available accommodates the full WOF (I have to fold my fabric width in half to use my current ruler).  It also has markings for 1/4-inch strip units.    I can see a road trip in my future……or better yet – I may have to add this to my wish list!

There is always time to quilt!
